Is 2cm thickness granite for kitchen countertops sufficient? Is it really that easy to crack?

We're planning on redoing our kitchen countertops and probably will go with 3cm thickness granite, but I'm wondering if the 2cm really is sufficient.

2cm is definitely sufficient. 3cm is normally used for a bigger edge profile. The 2cm will not crack once it is installed as long as it is installed correctly. Glad to answer all your granite/marble questions. Mrs. graniteman By: whatamess 2007-03-31 20:15:29

What kind of granite countertops would look good with slate flooring tile?

Doing a new construction house and have China Multi Color slate tiles going down on the floor, and dark espresso cabinets going in. I want granite countertops but I want it to complement the slate floor but not over power the slate since the slate already has a lot of variation. I don't like granites that are heavy on the speckles and look "busy", but I have no clue what will work. I'm open to suggestions. Thanks!

What are the standard sizes of bathroom countertops?

What are the standard sizes of bathroom countertops, two sink version(s)? If I am not doing a special order or trimming, what are the usual sizes to work with? Do you know any sites online that list this info? I am going crazy looking this up online, seems like it would be in the interest of online sellers to list standard sizes of countertops. Guess they earn more if they get more special order sizes. Thanks!

Hard to answer your question, in most homes there is no standard anything. If you mean depth, it is usually just a little deeper than your bathroom cupboards. The length is usually determined by how much room you have and how much free counter space you want. Most counter builders bill the lengths in even footage (if you want 9 ft. 5 in. they bill you for 10 ft.) in 6, 8, 10, and 12 foot lengths. This probably didn't help but go to a local hardware store that sells counters and counter tops and talk to them, they can give you a good idea. By: bill_72_99 2006-05-03 11:14:21

What color of granite countertops with white cabinets and gray floor tile?

We just bought a 1965 vintage house and the kitchen has white cabinets in great shape and we are planning to repaint them Sherwin Williams Bright White. The floor tile is a light to medium gray ceramic tile so here is the question. After almost resulting in a fist fight over the color of the countertops I am here in order to avoid physical injury. What color of granite will work best with this setup. By the way the appliances are a mixture of stainless steel and black.

I think you should go with a black or dark countertop. It will provide a contrast between your white cabinets and gray floor. This scheme is flexible and can basically match whatever wall color you choose. http://www.natural-stone-interiors.com/granite-countertop-colors.html Good luck with everything! I'm sure it will look great. By: Chris 2009-11-05 08:54:43

countertops?

clean supplies

I don't use anything special for my counters. I usually include them in my dish washing routine and use the cloth I used with my dishes in between my dishes and pots and pans. After the pots and pans it's too icky for my taste. For stains I use baking soda, it removes kool-ade stains no problem. By: smilemakr29 2006-05-07 14:41:11

What is the best material for kitchen countertops?

I am looking for a balance between looks, low maintenance, and price. I've heard that natural stone like granite is very high maintenance, and a little pricey. I was considering a synthetic like silestone or corian. I welcome all suggestions and ideas on this topic. I want to get new countertops soon, but I am afraid of spending a lot of money and not being happy with the result. Thank you.

Any type of natural stone counter-top will give you a great look...yes it is expensive ---but prices can vary depending on the particular stone...I don't consider them high maintaince-----common sense things apply---no hot pots directly on the stone-no harsh cleaners-and certain things like red wine or olive oil can stain. You can also get a professional tile-setter to put you together a top with 12 by 12 pieces and tight joints at a fraction of slab cost....If you decide on any solid natural stone---be sure to carefully examine your slab before its fabricated----there may be flaws or natural grains you simply don't like--and once its made-you own it.....I love my granite counter-tops.
